Bio:

Smiling comes naturally to me! It wasn’t evident when I first came to As Good as Gold. But now that I’ve spent time in a happy foster home, I have many more reasons to smile!

I’m timid, shy, hesitant, and can startle sometimes. But I do have a chosen safe place and that is my crate. Because I’m a bit more relaxed now, if I get startled I still go to my crate, but then when I feel all is safe, I head back to the family.

Mom says I’m a “sweet, sweet girl that just wants to be loved.” That’s nice—and it’s true! Mom can read my face and mannerisms very well. When at first she saw I was afraid to eat from a bowl, she fed me by hand. She saw that I was grateful and that I accepted the food in a gentle manner.  I must admit that I’ve never eaten from a bowl. Currently I prefer to eat on the floor of my crate. And gosh I really love my food! When I realize it’s mealtime now, I hop on my front paws for joy!  Occasionally, I add a happy bark! (We goldens love mealtime.) Oh, and as a little aside to my forever family whomever they might be, I happily accept treats and take them gently too.

More details about me: I go potty outside. I don’t counter surf. I’m good with cats and playful with dogs. I’m fine with teenagers, younger than that is simply not known. I’m at ease with women, but it takes me longer to get comfortable with men. My foster mom has a son with a deep voice. At first I was hesitant to be with him. Now, I go up to him for petting and come to him when he calls me to play outside. I’m used to stairs and doors now. We’re working on “sit.”

My imperfections include eating socks and comforters. They have an attractive scent, that’s all I can say about that. I’ll bark, usually just when I’m startled. And I have attempted some digging.

When foster mom calls me, I’m so happy that she wants me to come by her that I smile! One time mom laughed because my smile was so big my teeth showed a bit! I couldn’t help it! Kindness from people is worth smiling about! My increasing confidence is evident too with my acceptance of petting. At first, I would accept petting rather timidly. Now I roll on my back for tummy rubs in addition to the pets!

Smiles are contagious. Maybe I could try one on you!

Adoption Process
ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS, NO EXCEPTIONS:

  • Be at least 23 years of age

  • No children under 6 years of age living in your home

  • We primarily adopt goldens to families living within Illinois, Northwest Indiana, and the southern most counties of Wisconsin

  • If you do not own your residence or live in a condo, you will need a letter from your landlord or property management company

  • Provide excellent vet care for your dog(s)

  • Do not use an invisible fence

  • Are not over your town/county's pet limit

  • Have the knowledge and agreement of all adults living in the household

  • Be prepared to make a lifetime commitment
