Our Mission
As Good as Gold – Golden Retriever Rescue of Illinois is dedicated to the rescue, care and adoption of golden retrievers and golden mixes who are in need. In addition, As Good as Gold educates golden retriever guardians and the general public about the importance of spaying/neutering, positive training methods, diet and exercise, appropriate medical treatment and humane care.
History
In May 2003, 13 dedicated golden retriever families gathered in a Wheaton, Illinois living room to discuss the need for a golden retriever rescue in the Chicago area. They founded As Good as Gold as a result of that meeting, to help golden retrievers, golden mixes, and (occasionally) dogs with golden spirits.
Once the founders had organized the rescue, it did not take long for the first dog to arrive. In late May 2003, they were contacted by a vet’s office about a beautiful four-year-old boy named Ranier, and the need for golden retriever rescue services has not stopped since then.
From that small beginning in 2003, As Good as Gold has rescued more than 3,602 dogs and grown to over 853 members. Since 2003, approximately 160 dogs have been rescued each year, with investment in each dog’s medical well being averaging $1,503.
Our first 20 years have been very rewarding, most of all for the dogs that we have helped find their forever homes! We would not have accomplished everything that we did without our members, adoptive families, donors, and supporters. We look forward to helping our beloved goldens for many years to come and thank our community for their continued support in this mission.
