Just as seeds blossom into flowers with love and care, I too have blossomed with the love and care of my foster parents and canine foster brother. So, Flower is the perfect name for me!

After many years of having babies, I was relinquished to As Good as Gold by my previous owner. At that point I was a skinny girl suffering from heartworms, so it was good to be done with producing puppies. I have completed heartworm treatment and I am sooo ready to start being a dog again. Having exercise restrictions is for the birds! I love motoring around the backyard to explore and going on walks. Meeting new people and other dogs is the best! And walking is where I find them!

I love mealtimes and treats, which is good, because I still need to gain a little weight. I am house-trained, although a medication I was taking for the heartworms caused me to have accidents. Now that I’m done with those meds, I should get back to normal.

I am learning basic manners in my foster home but still have a way to go. I enjoy learning, though, so it should be easy for us! Unlike many retired breeders, I do not need a mentor dog – though I would benefit from one. While I get along with my foster brother, I am an attention hog and will push him out of the way to get all the petting and love.

I love to cuddle with my foster mom and follow her around the house; I am sure I can provide you with the same companionship. Let’s meet!

Medical concerns: Flower came into As Good as Gold with heartworms; she has been treated successfully and will simply need her annual heartworm test in January 2027. She will continue to take monthly heartworm preventive, of course. Because of the heartworm treatment, Flower has not been spayed. Her adopters can work with a veterinarian to determine the best time to spay her. If her adopters choose to work with one of AGaG’s partner veterinarian clinics, the rescue will cover the entire cost of the procedure, including the presurgical exam. If they choose to work with a non-partner vet, AGaG will reimburse them $450 once an invoice has been submitted. Flower also can be anxious, which is typical of retired breeding dogs; she is currently taking Trazadone and Gabapentin to manage that and should continue to do so as she transitions to her new home.

Requirements: Fenced yard and someone home more often than not; a resident dog is suggested but not required. Flower’s foster mom thinks she’d be OK as an only dog even though retired breeders typically transition better when there’s another dog in the house. Flower’s relinquishing owner reported scuffles with another female dog in the home as well as toy guarding. This behavior has not been observed in her foster home. Her ideal canine companion would be a calm, older dog who can co-exist with her.
