MUST HAVES IN A FOREVER HOME:

  1.  A stable mentor dog to help show what being a normal dog is like
  2.  A fenced in yard because being on a leash is scary
  3.  Someone who is home a lot of the time since dogs from commercial breeders have confinement issues
  4.  A patient, loving, calm home environment is crucial for fearful dogs to continue to build confidence
  5.  Continued medication to help with anxiety

If you are a Cubs fan, you know that the Cubs are World Champions.  You also know that they have two players with them named Anthony Rizzo and Jon Lester.

You may also know the story of how Jon Lester was a cancer survivor playing for the Boston Red Sox when Anthony Rizzo was drafted by the Sox.  Shortly thereafter, Anthony was diagnosed with cancer at age 18 just after having been drafted.  Through his treatments and recovery Jon Lester was there for both Anthony and his family.  They became very close friends.  Anthony later was traded to a California team but told by Red Sox GM, Theo Epstein, that one day he would play for him again.

With that in mind, Theo Epstein became the GM of the Chicago Cubs.  One of the first things he did was bring Jon Lester with him and his old pal Anthony Rizzo was then traded to the Cubs.  Now they were together again and the rest is History.

Well the As Good as Gold team has a couple of World Champion dogs, in our eyes.  They happen to have the same names.  They are litter mate Golden Doodles, named Rizzo and Lester.  These two guys were obtained from a commercial breeding facility last fall.  They unfortunately did not get proper socialization at the all important time of 0 – 16 weeks of age.  When they came to As Good as Gold, they were very shy and shut down.

With lots of love and work from foster parents with Lester before he was brought to the facility where Rizzo was learning that life is good, they are now making great strides.  Like Jon Lester and Anthony Rizzo they have leaned on each other to make their way through life and learn that they are survivors and they slowly but surely are learning to love and trust.

Rizzo and Lester are littermates, but are being adopted out separately.  Rizzo will need to learn how to live in a home with someone that will be loving and patient.  He is fearful of new people and takes a while to warm up, and when he does, he is very, very loving.

Adoption Process
ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS, NO EXCEPTIONS:

  • Be at least 23 years of age

  • No children under 6 years of age living in your home

  • We primarily adopt goldens to families living within Illinois, Northwest Indiana, and the southern most counties of Wisconsin

  • If you do not own your residence or live in a condo, you will need a letter from your landlord or property management company

  • Provide excellent vet care for your dog(s)

  • Do not use an invisible fence

  • Are not over your town/county's pet limit

  • Have the knowledge and agreement of all adults living in the household

  • Be prepared to make a lifetime commitment
