INTRO As told by Duchess
I am a large, cream-colored golden retriever, and if I do say so myself, I am quite beautiful! When I visited the veterinarian, they did say I needed to lose some weight, though.
I love being around my foster mom and always follow her wherever she goes. Sometimes I bark to get her attention and nudge her to encourage her to pet me. However, I can get agitated when foster mom’s dogs are around because I don’t like to share the attention. I admit I am a little possessive of her.
Although I don’t like being crated, I am OK with being confined to a small area. I love playing with dog toys when I’m alone, settling into my comfy dog bed, and sleeping throughout the night.
I do need to work on basic obedience commands. I am eager to learn and know I will do great with during training. Though I haven’t had much experience walking on a leash, I have been doing well and have not been pulling.
BEHAVIOR
- Duchess exhibits signs of being person possessive and is “clingy” as a result.
- She enjoys being with other dogs outdoors, but not so much indoors; therefore she should be the only dog in her forever home.
- Has not been around cats or kids, so interaction with them is unknown.
HEALTH
Duchess is healthy overall, but our veterinarian recommended she lose 20 pounds (she has lost 5 in her foster home). She has been treated successfully for tapeworm (Praziquantel) and an ear infection (Gentamicin/Betamethasone) and is currently on Fortiflora (probiotic) and Tylan powder to help with a recent colitis diagnosis.
ADDITIONAL INSIGHTS
Duchess is a large, gentle dog who would make a great addition to a family without other pets. She enjoys spending time with her human companions and wants them and their attention all to herself. A family that takes regular walks would be great for Duchess as this will help her to bond and the exercise will help her lose weight.
