INTRODUCTION As told by Lucy
Hello, everyone; I’m Lucy, the pup with the biggest heart, literally and figuratively! While my journey began with a bit of a hiccup (turns out my ticker isn’t quite in perfect rhythm), a wise veterinarian diagnosed me with degenerative heart valve disease and dilated cardiomyopathy, which creates irregular heart rhythms. Now, thanks to some amazing medications (don’t worry, they’re pills and easy to give to me), I’ve got more energy to shower you with love and I even do playful zoomies. All I ask is for a loving home, continued access to my superhero meds, and a vet who can be my new best bud (besides you, of course).
Speaking of adventures, my perfect home would have a fenced-in yard for zoomies and playtime with a furry friend (my foster sister is the best!). Bonus points if you love exploring nature because sniffing out new trails is my jam. And car rides with the wind in my fur? Absolutely, sign me up!
My foster family affectionately calls me a “Velcro dog,” and I suppose it’s true — I never let anyone go to the bathroom alone around there! Evenings are prime snuggle time, and you can bet I’ll be right beside you, ready for movie marathons or just enjoying each other’s company. Nights? Don’t even think about sleeping alone! I’m your personal furry foot warmer. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who thrives on togetherness, then look no further — I’m your ultimate cuddle champion!
It’s hard to believe, but I have one little quirk: When you leave, I might “borrow” your socks, shoes or gloves. Don’t worry — I’m not into chewing — I just collect these special items to feel close to you. Think of it as my way of saying “I love you” in my own doggy language!
BEHAVIOR:
Lucy is a medium-energy dog with a heart full of love and a spirit of curiosity. She’s currently mastering basic obedience commands and delights in playtime with her canine companions. As a retired breeder dog, Lucy is adjusting to the comforts of home life and is a bit shy at first. However, her sociable nature shines through as she adores her humans, happily trailing them from room to room.
HEALTH:
Lucy has abnormal heart rhythms, putting her at risk for a sudden heart attack. Her condition has stabilized since a veterinary cardiologist prescribed a combination of medications: Pimobendan, Sotalol and Mexiletine. She will likely need to take medication for the rest of her life and must visit a cardiologist every six months, as well as annual vet visits. She is due for her next cardiology visit in November, which will include an echocardiogram and other testing.
ADDITIONAL INSIGHTS:
Looking ahead, Lucy shines as a true gem with boundless potential. If you’re ready to open your heart to a shy yet endearing pup with a weak heart, Lucy is your perfect match! Her journey will demand love, patience, dedication to her treatment and a commitment to the associated costs. However, the reward of saving a beautiful soul and helping her live her best life is beyond measure! Embrace Lucy and experience the joy of giving her a second chance.
