Bio:

Everyone was really worried about me when I was given to As Good as Gold, because I have some kind of swallowing problem.  I made ugly squelching noises when I ate and drank, and had spasms that sounded like I was choking. All kinds of experts looked at me, and they say there are lots of terrible things I DON’T have, and what I do have is manageable and probably not going to get any worse.  So my foster mom feeds me food she has soaked with some canned food stirred in, and I take my time eating and drinking, so I sound much better!

I’m kind of a little guy, 55 pounds at my perfect weight, but that means everyone thinks I’m a puppy and I’m extra cute.  I’m only 1 ½ years old, so really I am still a pup, and I love to play with my foster sister, a middle-aged golden. I steal her toy, and we play tug with it, or she fetches a ball and I carry one while I run next to her. Sometimes I even give it to foster mom and let her throw it for me. I keep trying to teach her to play “catch me if you can” while I run with the ball, but she doesn’t want to play that game.

Another game I like is running in the yard back and forth between my foster mom and a friend who take turns calling me. I fly like the wind, and sometimes take an extra lap around the bushes, while I run for a tiny treat reward.  I also get pets so I have plenty of time to swallow the treat.

I love going for walks, too, but if I see a squirrel close by, I get a little excited. I have to use a harness, because the vet said collars are only for identification for me. Pulling on the collar makes my choking really bad.

I grew up with kids and I’d really love to have one, but they never seem to be out for walks when I am, early in the morning. I always wag my tail at them when they walk by.

I love attention and petting, and I’m a pretty good boy to have around the house. If my foster sister is getting brushed, I make sure I get brushed, too. Mostly I know which toys are mine and which are not (like shoes). But I still need some reminders when I decide to go exploring or I try to get a wrestling match going in the house or pretend I’m a paper shredder. I don’t use a crate normally, but sometimes I accidentally shut myself into one when I am getting toys out. I don’t mind, I lie down and take a nap while I wait for someone to come let me out.

I need

  • Fenced in yard for zoomies, because I love to run way faster than humans can
  • Someone willing to fuss with my food a bit, to make sure it has the right consistency so I don’t choke
  • Someone who will make sure I get lots of exercise and training, because I am a smart young guy bursting with energy
  • Love and snuggles and cuddles and petting
