I’m at my best when working hard or playing hard. I’d be a great candidate for agility, nose work, field training. What else might you have in mind? Are you a hiker or runner? I’m game for anything active! My foster parents walked me four times each day; each walk was 30 minutes. Do you have experience with herding dogs? My herding ancestry (a vet I saw called me an Aussie in golden clothing) likely drives my need to be active.

Oh, sure, after busy time I’m one of the best settlers and sleepers there is! I’m a loving girl at heart and even enjoy cuddling. Feel free to brush me as I do enjoy that.

I’m told I’m very smart and learn quickly. I work hard for small soft training treats. My foster parents worked with me a lot on heeling, “leave it, “wait” (for mom to walk through the door first), sitting when they come home rather than jumping, and an interesting thing called “watch me.” Foster mom said I’m a “fair trade” rock star! Once I figured out that I could give something up and gain a treat, I was IN! What a neat game! No easy food puzzles for me. I quickly empty them and carry them back to foster mom for more treats. You can try the difficult ones, if you wish.

• My foster parents found me to be dog selective.
• If you have a fence, it must be secure – I escaped my foster parents’ yard twice by wiggling underneath it. In my defense, I was keeping the yard free of bunnies. Smart woman that she is, foster mom opened the car door, called me and I hopped right in rather than pursue the rabbit. I LOVE car rides.
• I’m uncomfortable around small children, especially if confronted with a group of kids. Saying “hello” one child at a time isn’t too bad.
• I may have some mild separation anxiety; one nice day my foster parents went out to lunch and left some windows open. I popped a screen and hopped out to look for them. When I couldn’t find them nearby, I went to the front door to wait for them. Fortunately, a nice neighbor saw me, called my foster parents and kept an eye on me until they returned. So, they started closing windows when they left the house.
• You should also know that I don’t like being confined and can push over unsecured gates (I’m not a fan of crates either). The good news is that I am not destructive when left alone in the house; just be sure to close all the windows or I might go looking for you.
• I have exhibited sensitivity about having my feet handled.
