‘Twas Days ‘Til the Holidays- Holiday Safety for Pets

Holiday Safety for Pets

‘Twas days ‘til the holidays and all through my house, I, a pet parent was planning with my spouse. A safe holiday for all is always the goal,  Hoping to feel it’s all under control.

Starting with my favorite, trimming the tree. Bright lights and ornaments for everyone to see. Hanging shiny tinsel is hard to resist,  But a trip to the vet is not on my list.

A star on the top and packages below. All ribbons are missing, as is the fake snow. Pine tree water protected and needles swept clean,  It’s always the hope that no detail’s unseen.

Here come the goldens, romping with fun, love, and joy Headed right for the tree with their favorite toy. My tree well supported, glass decorations up high. Catastrophe avoided, I breathed a big sigh.

Holiday Safety for Pets No mistletoe, poinsettia, amaryllis, or holly. Avoiding tummy upset makes everyone jolly. All candles electric, out of wagging tail ways. No 911 call needed, to put out a blaze.

The time is coming fast, soon guests will arrive. Quiet holiday music makes the house come alive. Then what to a wandering pup’s nose should appear, But a kitchen full of food, within reach I fear. Up go the gates and the doors all swiftly closed. Keeping curious pets out, a huge challenge posed. Rich fatty food or chocolate at even one meal, The risk of illness quite serious is all too real.

I see “hungry” pleading eyes, know better, and resist. No table scraps from guests, I must firmly insist. One last, final detail before the coming crowd, A safe place to retreat when festivities get loud.

A sincere holiday wish for all who read this: May all four-legged family be on the nice list. After preparing this year with such care and foresight,  A safe holiday to all, where everything goes right.
