Aspen

Aspen came to As Good as Gold when we rescued 5 Goldens from a breeder in Iowa, 3 of whom were heartworm positive! Unfortunately Aspen was one of the positive ones and he has spent the last several months undergoing the difficult treatment to rid his body of the heartworms. Through it all he has remained loving and gentle. At two years old, he is a smaller Golden and weighs just under 60 lbs. right now. His normal spark is just beginning to show and he's begun to have the activity level that you'd expect from a typical young Golden. He thrives on attention and is eager to share his affection with everyone he meets. Aspen has just been neutered and is ready to go. He will need one more test in May to make sure the heartworms have been completely eradicated, and As Good as Gold will cover this. He's been through a lot and is ready to begin "Aspen's excellent adventure!" as a new member of your family!

Barkley

This happy 2 year old male loves everybody and gets up every day with joy and verve! He loves other dogs and does well with kids, although, at 85 pounds, he'd do better with older kids that he can't overwhelm.

Barkley was given up through no fault of his own by an owner whose health problems prevented her from caring for him. His recent neutering should help to mellow him a bit and positive reinforcement obedience sessions will be a requirement of his adoption.

Barkley has a spring in his step and a twinkle in his eye-and he'll share this joy with his new family. Big, beautiful, bouncy Barkley is just waiting for the invitation to bound into your life!

Breeze

Breeze's life was in jeopardy when she was rescued from the back of a pickup, but things are looking up for this 18-month old girl. She landed in a great foster home and loves to play with her new Golden foster brother/accomplice. Breeze is a typical energetic youngster who has no trouble snagging a few cookies off the counter, jumping over the baby gates, and generally being a bit of a rascal.

The good news-she loves to snuggle, she wants to please, she's as sweet as can be and, she's starting obedience classes to learn some manners. She was in heat when she arrived, so she'll be spayed soon. When she's ready to go it will have to be to a home with a high-fenced yard because she'll scale anything to check out the people, bunnies, or deer on the other side. Breeze is learning how to be a great family member-we'll keep you posted on her progress!

Candy/Sammy

Nine year old Sammy's a happy go lucky kind of guy; but he's always there to keep an eye out for his Golden sister, Candy. He loves to play fetch, and seven year old Candy is happy to let him get the ball. He's out there at the end of the leash, she walks like a lady.

This darling duo can keep themselves entertained or shower you with affection. The only thing better than one great dog is two!

Daphne

This beautiful young lady is looking for a very special home. Three year old Daphne came to us with a lot of anxiety issues and her foster mom has dedicated many months to building Daphne's confidence and gradually exposing her to new situations. Daphne has done well in her Obedience classes, easily mastering the basic commands and she's recently started Agility training, which she loves! Driven to succeed, this Golden thrives on a challenge. But don't throw new things at her too quickly!

Daphne is a high energy dog who may become jumpy and mouthy when stressed. Not your typical adoring Golden, she can be sociable on her terms and seems almost cat-like at times. But with familiar surroundings and a calm environment, she relaxes comfortably and her sweet nature shines through. Her daily two-mile walks will keep you in shape and having the clever Daphne as your partner in Agility or Flyball will make you proud and keep her focused and content!

Frankie

He's back! You may have met young Frankie several months ago on this website and remember that he was recovering from a nasty bout with ringworm. Well, things took a turn in the wrong direction and poor Frankie has spent many weeks in quarantine in a veterinary facility undergoing additional treatments for his ringworm. Now the frisky one year old pup wants you to know that he's raring to go. He's back in his foster home and hasn't lost a bit of his big, happy-go-lucky attitude! He plays rough with his Golden foster brother, but he listens well when his foster mom tells him to cool it. He's still too rambunctious for the cats but can you blame a guy who's been locked up for so long!

Frankie has one more vet appointment and when he gets the "all clear" he'll be looking for a calm household with a fenced yard. Older kids would be better and obedience lessons will help him turn into an excellent doggie citizen. This is one smart pup who's been very patient and in a few weeks he'll be ready to go!

Jake

Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound-or make that, baby gates! Jake is one great three year old who just wants to be free and doesn't seem to abuse the privilege. He loves people and other dogs. He was a well-loved member of a family until they were forced to move to a smaller, no-pet home. His loss can be your dream, come true! He'd be an excellent companion, playmate and friend-but don't forget his motto-"don't fence me in!"

Lucy

Lucy is the perfect example of a beloved dog who was relinquished through no fault of her own. At 5 ½ she was suffering from severe allergies because her very elderly owners could no longer manage her diet and keep it consistent. She arrived at our doorstep pretty bedraggled, itching from the allergies and hurting from resulting infections.

Weeks later, with the help of excellent vet care and a foster family who relentlessly followed her prescribed care, Lucy has burst out of her cocoon and emerged a beautiful Golden. She maintained her happy demeanor throughout her ordeal and has proven to be an absolutely wonderful dog. She loves to play with her Golden foster brother, adores long walks in the woods and settles down easily in the house.

Her recent appearance WGN's Adopt-a-Pet segment will give you a better idea of how far she's come, now she's hoping her next stop will be in her forever home!

Mattie

This is Mattie-ten years young! She's smart and active and lots of fun to be around. She came to us with a large facial tumor, which, fortunately, was benign. It was removed by a skilled surgeon and she healed beautifully. In fact, Mattie had her TV debut on WGN's Adopt-a-Pet segment recently, and we think you'll agree with us, she looks fabulous!

Mattie made herself very comfortable in her foster home from day one and she should transition to her forever home just as easily. She walks several miles a day with her foster dad and plays like a youngster. She's eager to please and is just waiting for an invitation to your home where she'll capture your heart! This lovely senior girl qualifies for our Golden Years Program.

Missy

A spry young senior who appeared on our doorstep from parts unknown, Missy has adapted beautifully to life in her foster home. She gets along great with her foster mom's guide dog, and is just fine with the cat. We're guessing she's around 10, but her youthful vigor and sparkly personality make her seem a lot younger.

It's a good thing she's on the smaller side because she's a world class counter surfer if you don't keep things out of her reach! How do you think she earned the nickname 'Stealth'!

Clever Missy absolutely loves people and is even good around smaller kids. She'll jump into the car at a moment's notice and if you prefer to go for a walk, she won't drag you a bit! Why not invite her to go home with you, you'll be glad you did! Missy qualifies for our Golden Years Program.

Sierra

This gorgeous miss is a mellow mixture of Golden and Husky and her youthful demeanor belies her 9 years. She is calm in the house and though she walks ahead of you on a leash, she barely pulls at all. Her beautiful coat will need some grooming, but you'll be the envy of the neighborhood when people see you with her.

Sierra was relinquished because she disliked being poked and prodded by a toddler, so she'll do better in a household with older children, or none at all. And, don't worry, if kids come to visit, she's happy to wait in another room until they leave. She entertains herself by bouncing and catching a tennis ball and will even toss one to you to get you to play. A lovely dog with a delightful personality, let us know when you're ready to invite her into your life!

Taylor

This lanky 9 year old male came to us from Michigan where he was living as an outside dog. He's made the transition to life in a home very happily, and is neutered and housebroken. Taylor's a lovable Golden mix (probably some Lab in his background) who really enjoys having his own bed, being petted and brushed and playing outside. He takes treats very gently and his sweet disposition will make him a wonderful family member.

He's eager to please and a quick learner who already knows a number of commands like "sit" and "down". He would benefit from some positive reinforcement obedience lessons to help him get over his exuberant greeting behavior and pulling on the leash.

But, keep him away from the lawnmower! Word has it that he tries to attack it and bite the tires! So he needs to be safely inside when you're cutting the grass. Not much to ask for such a great dog!

Zeke

This 18 month old Golden mix has stars in his eyes after appearing on WGN's Adopt-a-Pet segment in December. And he's on a first name basis with everyone in the studio because he's so friendly. Zeke came to us from a shelter and has spent time in a wonderful foster home where he's learned tons of new things. He gets along great with the other dogs, has learned to "WAIT" before he eats or goes outside, and he only gets little mouthy when he's really excited. Zeke's beautiful thick coat covers his slim physique and at only about 60 lbs, so it's not a problem when he wants to jump in your lap!
